Geomembrane

Anti-seepage geomembrane is still under continuous development and research

2020-06-12
The anti-seepage geomembrane is a new type of synthetic geotextile waterproof barrier material produced in the 1980s. It is a polymer anti-seepage material following soft polyvinyl chloride, chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSPE) and butyl rubber. Another new type of high-quality waterproof materials in the future.

The use of anti-seepage geomembrane began in the mid-1980s. The first is the application of anti-seepage film in channel anti-seepage, followed by the production of high-density polyethylene anti-seepage film. The initial waterproof and anti-seepage projects included Shengli Canal in Henan, Weihe Canal in Shaanxi, Dongbeiwang Irrigation District in Beijing and many irrigation districts in Shanxi Province. After the selection, the effect is excellent, and it will be publicized to the reservoir, sluice and reservoir engineering projects. The thickness of the anti-seepage geomembrane before was very thin, because the thickness of the anti-seepage geomembrane faced the lack of advanced production technology and scientific backwardness. At that time, everyone chose 0.12mm-0.38mm anti-seepage geomembrane.

It wasn't until the early 1990s that the thicker anti-seepage geomembrane was gradually adopted in China. In 1992, Guangxi Liuzhou Tiancun Dam was the highest anti-seepage geomembrane rockfill dam in China, with a height of 48 meters. The anti-seepage effect is better than expected. After the closure of the Three Gorges Project in the Yangtze River in 1998, the anti-seepage geomembrane was also selected for the cofferdam wall. In 1998, the Hanjiang Fuzhou Water Control Project embankment anti-seepage engineering project selected 1.2 million square meters of anti-seepage geomembrane, including high-density polyethylene anti-seepage geomembrane, low-density polyethylene anti-seepage geomembrane, geomembrane and composite geomembrane.
In the 21st century in China, with the development and growth of industry and science, the thickness of anti-seepage geomembrane produced in China can reach 3mm and the width can reach 8 meters, which is in a leading position in the world. Domestic anti-seepage geomembrane production bases are mainly located in more developed areas in the east, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shandong and other regions.
Anti-seepage geomembrane has been widely used in various anti-seepage engineering projects, such as: artificial lakes, golf driving range, garbage disposal site, tailings treatment station, tunnel, high-speed rail anti-skid layer, aquaculture, landscape gardening, petrochemical industry, etc. field. The National Geosynthetics Research Laboratory is also continuing to develop new applications for impermeable membranes.
